How the Salzburg to Hallstatt transfer works

You send a request with the date, time and address. We confirm the fixed price and the car, and the booking is done. On the day, the driver waits at the agreed point with a sign showing your name. Waiting is free until you come out.

Route, travel time and stops on the way

The drive is about 75 km. Depending on traffic and the season, the driver takes either the road via Fuschl or the route through Bad Ischl. Both run through the Salzkammergut lake district, so the views start soon after you leave the city.

Want a short break? Ask for a stop on the way: a photo by the lake at Fuschl, a coffee in Bad Ischl or simply a few minutes to stretch your legs. Mention it when booking and we plan the time into the transfer.

Cars cannot drive freely into the centre of Hallstatt. The driver drops you at the P1 or P2 car park by the tunnel, and from there it is a walk of a few minutes into the village. More about the village is on our Hallstatt destination page.

Private transfer, train, bus or taxi: an honest comparison

The train from Salzburg to Hallstatt is not direct. You change at Attnang-Puchheim, get off at Hallstatt station on the other side of the lake and cross by ferry. It works if you travel light, but it takes longer and the connections have to line up.

The bus is another option: route 150 runs to Bad Ischl, where you change for Hallstatt. It is a scenic ride, but with big suitcases, small children or a late arrival it quickly becomes tiring.

A local taxi will take you too, but the fare usually runs on the meter and you only know the final sum at the end. With us the price is agreed before the trip and does not change if there is traffic on the road.

In short: solo with a backpack and plenty of time, public transport is fine. With family, luggage or a tight schedule, a private car is simpler.
