St. Anton am Arlberg is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world and a birthplace of alpine skiing. It is part of Ski Arlberg, the largest connected ski area in Austria, which links St. Anton with St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech, Zürs and Warth-Schröcken. The resort is loved for challenging slopes, off-piste terrain and lively après-ski.
Thanks to its location on the Arlberg railway and the main east-west road through Austria, St. Anton is one of the easiest major Alpine resorts to reach. Here are your options.
By car or private transfer
St. Anton lies on the Arlberg route between Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Approximate distances and driving times:
approx. 100 km, around 1 hour 15 minutes.
approx. 200 km, around 2.5 hours.
approx. 140 km, around 2 hours.
approx. 250 km, around 3 hours.
A private transfer takes you from arrivals straight to your chalet or hotel. For flights into Tyrol, see our Innsbruck airport ski transfers. If you are flying into Geneva for a multi-resort trip, check our Geneva airport ski transfers as well.

By train
St. Anton has its own station on the Arlberg line, just a short walk from the main lifts. Direct trains run from Innsbruck in approx. 1 hour 15 minutes and from Zurich in approx. 2.5 hours, and there are long-distance trains from Vienna and Salzburg. This makes the train a realistic choice, especially if you travel light or have skis sent ahead.
By bus
Regional and ski buses link St. Anton with the other villages of the Arlberg area, such as St. Christoph, Stuben and Lech. They are useful during your stay, while for arrival the train or a transfer is usually more convenient.

By taxi
Local taxis wait at St. Anton station and can take you to hotels higher up or in neighbouring villages. From an airport, however, a pre-booked transfer at a fixed time is far more practical.
Travel tips and why a private transfer helps
the road tunnel is the usual route, while the pass road can be closed in heavy snow.
expect more traffic on arrival and departure days.
winter tyres are mandatory in wintry conditions, chains are advisable.
With a private transfer, you skip connections and waiting on cold platforms. Your driver monitors your flight, meets you at arrivals and handles your luggage and skis.
