Špindlerův Mlýn is the largest and best known ski resort in the Czech Republic. It lies in the heart of the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) close to the Polish border and offers well groomed slopes, modern lifts, snow parks and a lively town centre with hotels, restaurants and après-ski. In winter it attracts skiers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Germany.

The resort is easy to reach from Prague and is also a realistic weekend trip from Bratislava, Vienna or Wrocław. Here is how to get there.

By car or private transfer

From Prague the distance is approximately 150 km and the drive takes about 2 hours, mostly on the D10 and D11 motorways and then through Vrchlabí into the mountains. From Václav Havel Airport Prague the trip is similar. From Wrocław you should count on around 170 km and about 3 hours, while from Bratislava or Vienna the journey is roughly 450 km and takes about 4.5 to 5 hours.

The last section through the valley can be snowy, and parking in the town centre is limited and regulated in high season. A private transfer is the easiest solution: the driver drops you at your hotel or directly at the lifts, and there is plenty of room for skis and luggage. Find out more about our ski transfers.

By bus

During the winter season there are direct bus connections from Prague to Špindlerův Mlýn, and the trip takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Buses are reasonably priced and do not require changes, but they can be fully booked on Friday and Saturday mornings, so reserve your seat early. You also have to get from the bus stop to your accommodation with all your gear.

By train

There is no railway station in Špindlerův Mlýn. The nearest practical option is a train to Vrchlabí, usually with a change, and then a local bus or taxi for the last 15 km. This route is fine for experienced travellers with light luggage, but with ski equipment and children it can be tiring.
