The Hundertwasser House (Hundertwasserhaus) is one of Vienna's most photographed buildings. Designed by artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and completed in the 1980s, this colourful residential block has wavy floors, uneven windows, onion-shaped domes and trees growing out of the walls and roof terraces. It is still a residential building, so you can only admire it from outside, but the nearby Hundertwasser Village and the KUNST HAUS WIEN museum let you see more of his work.
The house stands at the corner of Kegelgasse and Löwengasse in the 3rd district (Landstraße), approximately 2 km east of St. Stephen's Cathedral. Here is how to get there.
Private transfer or taxi
From the historic centre a car ride takes only 10-15 minutes. From Vienna International Airport the trip is approximately 20 km and takes about 25-30 minutes. A private transfer is a good option if you are coming straight from the airport, travelling with children or older relatives, or want to combine several sights in one day.
- Drop-off close to the house, without searching for stops.
- The driver can wait while you take photos and continue to the next sight.
- Easy to combine with the Prater, Belvedere Palace or the Danube Canal.

Tram
Tram line 1 runs along the Ring and stops at Hetzgasse, just a few minutes on foot from the Hundertwasser House. It is a pleasant ride with views of the city, and one of the easiest ways to get there from the centre.
U-Bahn and walking
You can also take the U3 or U4 to Landstraße / Wien Mitte station. From there, the walk to the Hundertwasser House takes approximately 10-15 minutes through a quiet residential area. Many visitors also walk along the Danube Canal, which makes for a nice route on a sunny day.

Tips for your visit
People live in the building, so please respect their privacy and do not enter the courtyard.
Visit early in the morning for photos without crowds.
Across the street, the Hundertwasser Village has shops and a cafe in the same style.
KUNST HAUS WIEN, a few minutes away, shows a permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser's art.
