Liechtenstein is one of the smallest countries in Europe, tucked between Austria and Switzerland in the Rhine valley. Its capital Vaduz is known for the Prince's castle on the hillside, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the postage stamp museum and an important financial sector. The country has no airport and no motorway of its own, so getting there from Vienna takes a little planning.
The distance from Vienna to Vaduz is approximately 650-700 km. Here are your options.
Private transfer by car
The road route follows the A1 west via Linz and Salzburg, continues through Germany towards Innsbruck or via the Inn valley, then crosses the Arlberg to Feldkirch, right on the border with Liechtenstein. The drive takes approximately 7-7.5 hours without long breaks. A private transfer takes you directly from your Vienna address to your hotel or office in Vaduz or Schaan.
- Door-to-door service across the whole of Austria.
- Scenic Alpine route with optional stops in Salzburg or Innsbruck.
- No luggage limits, perfect for business trips and relocations.
- Two drivers can be arranged for a non-stop journey.

Train
Long-distance trains run from Vienna towards Zurich and stop at Feldkirch or Buchs SG, both close to Liechtenstein. The journey takes approximately 7 hours. From Feldkirch or Buchs, local buses or a short taxi ride take you to Vaduz. Night trains on this corridor are also an option on some dates.
Flight via Zurich
There are no flights to Liechtenstein itself. Many travellers fly from Vienna to Zurich, a flight of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes, and then continue by car to Vaduz, which takes about 1-1.5 hours. Including airport procedures, the total time is often 4-5 hours.
Bus
Direct long-distance buses from Vienna to Liechtenstein are rare. Usually you would travel by coach to Feldkirch, Innsbruck or Zurich and change there. It is a budget option, but slow and less convenient.

Tips for your trip
Liechtenstein uses the Swiss franc, although euros are often accepted.
There are no border controls between Austria and Liechtenstein, but carry your passport or ID card.
If you drive yourself, you need an Austrian vignette, and the Arlberg tunnel has a separate toll.
In winter, check road conditions on the Arlberg route.
