Bánkút is the best known ski area in the Bükk Mountains of northern Hungary. It sits on a plateau at roughly 900 metres above sea level, inside Bükk National Park, and offers a handful of gentle and intermediate runs, a relaxed atmosphere and a real winter feel that is hard to find elsewhere in Hungary.
The resort is small and fairly remote, so planning the journey matters. Below you will find the main ways to reach Bánkút, approximate travel times and a few tips that make a winter trip into the Bükk hills easier.
By car or private transfer
The most practical way to reach Bánkút is by road. From Budapest the distance is approximately 160 km and the drive takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, mostly on the M3 motorway towards Miskolc, followed by a scenic mountain road through Lillafüred or via Nagyvisnyó. From Košice the trip is roughly 130 km and takes about 2 hours, while from Bratislava you should count on around 3.5 to 4 hours.
The last stretch climbs through forest and can be snowy or icy, so winter tyres and some experience with mountain roads are essential. A private transfer takes this stress away: the driver knows the road, the vehicle is equipped for winter and there is enough space for skis and boots. Our ski transfers work door to door, from your home, hotel or the airport straight to the slopes.

By train and bus
Public transport to Bánkút is possible but slow. The usual route is a train from Budapest to Miskolc, which takes about 2 hours, followed by a regional bus into the Bükk Mountains. Bus connections to the plateau are limited, especially on weekdays and outside the main season, so check the current timetable before you travel.
Taxi from Miskolc
If you arrive in Miskolc by train, a local taxi to Bánkút is an option for the final 35 to 40 km. Book it in advance, as drivers willing to go up in snow are not always available, and getting back in the evening can be harder.

Tips for your trip to Bánkút
Bánkút relies on natural snow and snowmaking, so the season and opening days vary from year to year.
Parking near the lifts fills up quickly on weekends.
Lillafüred, with its lake, waterfall and historic hotel, is a lovely stop on the way.
If you fly into Budapest, you can spend a day in the city first. See our Budapest transfers.
Why choose a private transfer
A private transfer means no timetables, no changes and no worries about icy roads. You travel in a clean, comfortable car or minivan from our fleet, with room for the whole family and all your equipment. The driver waits for you and adapts to your schedule, which is especially useful at a small resort with limited public connections.
