Schladming in Styria is one of the most popular ski destinations in Austria. The resort sits at the heart of the Ski Amadé region and its 4-Berge-Skischaukel links Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm. Schladming is famous for the Night Race on the Planai, wide groomed slopes and a charming town centre full of restaurants and bars.

The resort is well placed between Vienna, Salzburg and Graz, so you have several ways to get there. Here is an overview.

By car or private transfer

Schladming lies in the Enns valley and is reached by motorway and well-maintained main roads. Approximate distances and driving times:

From Salzburg Airport

approx. 90 km, around 1 hour 15 minutes.

From Vienna

approx. 280 km, around 3 hours.

From Graz

approx. 190 km, around 2 hours.

From Munich

approx. 230 km, around 2.5 hours.

From Bratislava

approx. 340 km, around 3.5 to 4 hours.

By train

Schladming has a railway station on the Enns valley line. From Salzburg, the journey usually takes approx. 1.5 hours with a change, and from Vienna approx. 3.5 to 4 hours, typically with one change. The station is within reach of the Planai valley station, which makes the train a reasonable option if you travel light.

By bus

Ski buses connect Schladming with Rohrmoos, Haus im Ennstal, Pichl and other villages in the region, and they are usually included for lift pass holders. For the journey from the cities, the train or a car is generally more practical.

By taxi

Local taxis are useful from Schladming station to hotels in Rohrmoos or on the mountain. From an airport, a pre-booked transfer at a fixed time is far more convenient than arranging a taxi on arrival.

Travel tips and why a private transfer helps

in late January the town is very busy, so book transport early.
