Chopok South, with its base at Srdiečko, is the southern side of Jasná Nízke Tatry, the largest ski area in Slovakia. Lifts from Srdiečko climb towards the summit of Chopok, where you can cross over to the northern slopes of Jasná and ski the whole area on one pass. The south side is known for sunny slopes, wide pistes and fewer crowds than the north.

Srdiečko sits in the Low Tatras above the village of Bystrá, north of Brezno in central Slovakia. Here is how to get there from the main cities and airports, plus a few tips for a smooth journey.

By car or private transfer

Driving is the easiest way to reach Srdiečko, as the resort is at the end of a mountain road with limited public transport. Approximate distances and travel times:

From Bratislava

approx. 250 km, around 3 hours via Banská Bystrica and Brezno.

From Vienna

approx. 310 km, around 3.5 to 4 hours.

From Budapest

approx. 250 km, around 3.5 hours via Zvolen.

From Poprad-Tatry Airport

approx. 90 km, around 1.5 hours.

A private transfer takes you door to door, from the airport or your hotel straight to your accommodation at the resort. Many guests fly into Vienna or Bratislava, so see our Bratislava ski resort transfers and Vienna ski resort transfers for details.

By train and bus

The nearest railway station is in Brezno, which can be reached from Bratislava with a change, usually in Banská Bystrica or Zvolen. From Brezno, regional buses run towards Bystrá and, in the winter season, up to Srdiečko. Connections are not very frequent, so check timetables in advance. With ski equipment and several changes, the journey can take 5 hours or more from Bratislava.

By taxi

A local taxi from Brezno or Banská Bystrica is a practical way to cover the last part of the trip. For long distances from an airport, however, a pre-booked private transfer is usually more comfortable and predictable than hailing a taxi on arrival.

Travel tips

Winter roads

the final climb to Srdiečko can be snowy, so winter tyres are essential and chains are useful.

Parking

car parks at Srdiečko fill up on sunny weekends, so arrive early or let a driver drop you off.

North and south

if your accommodation is at Jasná on the north side, you can still ski the south via the Chopok summit lifts.

Weather

strong wind sometimes closes the top lifts, so keep your plans flexible.

Why choose a private transfer

A private transfer removes the stress of mountain driving and timetables. Your driver tracks your flight, meets you at arrivals and helps with skis and luggage. We choose the right vehicle from our fleet for couples, families or larger groups, so everyone travels comfortably with all their gear.
